GoboLinux is an alternative Linux distribution that redefines the entire filesystem hierarchy. There is no package manager: instead, packages can be managed directly through the filesystem. In GoboLinux, each program resides in its own versioned directory, such as /Programs/Xorg/7.1/, keeping applications self-contained and improving system maintenance.

Wesentliche Verbesserungen wurden alle über das System, auch was die Funktionalität benötigt, um die Umgebungsvariablen, daemon Management Packs sowie die Einstellungen für Backup-Informationen in den Paketen selbst (über die "Ressourcen"-Verzeichnis). Die LiveCD Erfahrung wurde ebenfalls verbessert - Sie können nun auch KDE und OpenOffice ohne Berührung der Festplatte.
