Die größte Veränderung ist die Unterstützung für externe Bände. Bisher konnten PhotoVault nur die Verwaltung der Bilder in einer eigenen Datenbank gespeichert. Das war kein bequemer Weg, um mit großen bestehenden Archiven zu arbeiten, da PhotoVault eine neue Kopie von jedem Bild-Datei erstellt und damit verdoppelt Festplattennutzung. Dies kann nun durch die Definition der bestehenden Archiv-Verzeichnis als externes Volume gelöst werden. Dann PhotoVault speichert nur Metadaten und eine Miniaturansicht des Fotos in seiner Datenbank. Die eigentliche Bild-Dateien werden aus dem ursprünglichen Verzeichnis zugegriffen wird.

Major feature enhancements
The biggest change is support for external volumes. Previously, Photovault could only manage images stored in its own database. This was not a convenient way to work with large existing archives, since Photovault created a new copy of each image file and thus doubled disk usage. This can now be solved by defining the existing archive directory as an external volume. Then Photovault stores only metadata and a thumbnail of the photos in its database. The actual image files are accessed from the original directory.
