Xplico is an IP traffic decoder that extracts data from an Internet traffic capture. From a pcap file, it can extracts each email (POP, IMAP, and SMTP protocols), all HTTP content, VoIP calls (SIP, RTP, H323, MEGACO, MGCP), IRC, MSN, and so on. It isn't a packet sniffer or a network protocol analyzer, but rather an IP/Internet traffic decoder or network forensic analysis tool (NFAT).

The Port Scan Attack Detector (psad) is a collection of three system daemons that are designed to work with the Linux iptables firewalling code to detect port scans and other suspect traffic. It features a set of highly configurable danger thresholds (with sensible defaults), verbose alert messages, email alerting, DShield reporting, and automatic blocking of offending IP addresses. Angst is an active sniffer, based on libpcap and libnet. It dumps into a file the payload of all the TCP packets received on the specified ports. It implements two methods for active sniffing. Angst is able to monitor ARP requests, and after enabling IP forwarding on the local host, it sends ARP replies mapping all IPs to the local MAC address. Also, it can flood the local network with random MAC addresses (like macof), causing switches to send packets to all ports.

LogAnalyzer is a Web front-end for syslog and other network event data. It provides easy browsing, searching, basic analysis, and some graphics. Data is taken from databases or plain syslog text files, so LogAnalyzer does not require changes to an existing logging infrastructure. Depending on the log data present, it can process syslog messages, Windows event log entries, and some more exotic things. Performance Co-Pilot (PCP) is a framework and set of services for supporting system-level performance monitoring and performance management. It provides a unifying abstraction for all of the interesting performance data in a system, and allows client applications to easily retrieve and process any subset of that data using a single API. A client-server architecture allows multiple clients to monitor the same host, and a single client to monitor multiple hosts. Archive logging and replay are integrated so that a client application can use the same API to process real-time data from a host or historical data from an archive.

MoSShE (MOnitoring in Simple SHell Environment) is a simple,
lightweight (both in size and system requirements) server monitoring
package designed for secure and in-depth monitoring of a handful of
typical/critical Internet systems. It supports email alerts and SLA
monitoring out of the box, and whatever you can script. The system is
programmed in plain (Bourne) SH, and made to be compatible with BASH and
Busybox so it can easily be deployed on embedded systems. Monitoring
is designed to be distributed over multiple systems, usually running
locally. As no parameters are accepted from the outside, checks cannot
be tampered or misused from outside. The system is designed to allow
decentralized checks and evaluation as well as classical agent-based
checks with centralized data accumulation. Agent data is transferred via
HTTP, so available Web servers can be co-used for agent data transfer.
Each agent creates simple (static) HTML pages with full and condensed
status reports on each system, allowing simple local checks.
