SWFTools is a collection of code for handling Flash .SWF-files. This includes a merging tool (swfcombine), an extracting tool (swfextract), PDF/JPEG/PNG/AVI/TTF/WAV to SWF converters (pdf2swf, jpeg2swf, png2swf, avi2swf, font2swf, and wav2swf), a text parsing tool (swfstrings), an SWF parser (swfdump), and a library for writing and reading SWFs (rfxswflib).

SoX is the Swiss Army knife of sound processing
tools: it can convert sound files between many
different file formats and audio devices, and can
apply many sound effects and transformations, as
well as doing basic analysis and providing input
to more capable analysis and plotting tools.

The abcMIDI suite consists of programs for turning ABC music files into MIDI and vice versa, typesetting them as PostScript files, and manipulate them in several ways.

libsndfile is a C library for reading and writing sound files such as AIFF, AU, WAV, and others through one standard interface. It can currently read/write 8, 16, 24 and 32-bit PCM files as well as 32 and 64-bit floating point WAV files and a number of compressed formats. It compiles and runs on *nix, MacOS, and Win32.

burnCDDA is a console frontend to cdrdao,
cdrecord, MPlayer, mpg321, oggdec, mppdec, flac, normalize, and mp3_check. It can be used to create audio CDs from an M3U playlist (the playlist format of XMMS
and amaroK) or from files inside a directory. It supports MP3, OGG Vorbis, Musepack, FLAC, WMA, M4A, and WAV files, and it might be the easiest way to copy an audio CD.

docx2txt is a tool that attempts to generate equivalent text files from (even corrupted) Microsoft .docx documents, preserving some formatting and document information (which MS text conversion drops) along with appropriate character conversions for a good (ASCII) text experience.

It is a platform independent solution consisting of (core) Perl and (wrapper) Unix/Windows shell scripts and a configuration file to control the output text appearance to fair extent. It depends upon a commandline unzipping program (like unzip, 7z, pkzipc, or wzunzip) that can silently extract single files from zip archives to console/standard output/pipe.

It can very conveniently be used to build a Web based docx document conversion service. Some Makefiles and Windows batch files are provided for easy installation of the scripts. With unzippers like CakeCmd that can deal with corrupt Zip archives, this tool can extract text from corrupt docx documents in many cases, where MS word processor fails to even open them.

Video Contact Sheet *NIX creates a contact sheet (preview) from videos by taking still captures distributed over the length of the video. The output image contains useful information on the video such as codecs, file size, screen size, frame rate, and length. It requires MPlayer or FFmpeg and ImageMagick. It is confirmed to work on Linux and FreeBSD, and possibly other POSIX/UNIX systems.

NewVideoRecorder is a high quality video capture toolkit for Linux. It includes deep buffering of audio and video to reduce frame dropping, a smooth dropping algorithm to keep the video smooth if dropping is required, and dynamic stretching of the audio stream to exactly match the video stream. It can use v4l1 and v4l2 devices as video sources, and OSS devices as an audio source. It can produce QuickTime, AVI, NuppelVideo 0.52 files, MPEG-1 files, and all files supported by ffmpeg (through the ffmpeg library). It also includes tools and utilities for high quality video streaming (multicast and unicast).

tovid is a suite of command line utilities (and a graphical frontend) for creating video discs in DVD, VCD, SVCD, and KVCD/KDVD formats (PAL or NTSC). tovid supports a wide variety of input video formats, and can encode to several different output resolutions. Discs may be authored with hierarchical menus for navigation and playback.

The DVB Driver Project has very good drivers for DVB cards by many manufacturers (e.g., Hauppauge WinTV DVB-s and WinTV Nova, Siemens, Technotrend, Galaxis, and Technisat). It supports DVB-s, DVB-t, and DVB-c.

OGMRip is an application and a set of libraries for ripping and encoding DVDs into AVI/OGM files using a wide variety of codecs. It relies on mplayer, mencoder, ogmtools, oggenc, and lame to perform its tasks.
The GUI features a clean HIG-compliant GNOME 2 interface and tries to minimize (as much as possible) esoteric settings.
