Freevo is a Linux application that turns a PC with
a TV capture card and/or TV-out into a standalone
multimedia jukebox/VCR/PVR/HTPC/DVR/set-top box.
It uses MPlayer and other applications to play and
record audio and video. It is optimized for use
with a TV and remote, but can be used with a
monitor and keyboard.

MOC (music on console) is a console audio player
with a simple ncurses interface in playmp3list
style. It supports MP3 (with ID3 tag, VBR, and
Xing headers), Ogg, FLAC, WAVE, Musepack, Speex,
WMA, MP4, AAC, and some other less popular audio
formats. Playlists can be saved and loaded using
.m3u files (PLS version 2 can also be loaded).
Internet streams (Shoutcast, Icecast) are
supported. It achieves gapless playback by
employing an output buffer in a separate thread
and file pre-caching. The key mapping can be fully
customized. The interface can be detached from the
server as it plays in the background.

BMP is a media player which provides a very
easy-to-use interface and usage semantics for all
tasks, while having extensive standards and
services support under the hood (MusicBrainz,
Last.fm radio/scrobbling, HAL, DBus), yet keeping
the details out of the way of the user.

The Extended Module Player is a command-line mod
player for Unix-like systems that plays over 90
mainstream and obscure module formats from Amiga,
Atari, Acorn, Apple IIgs, C64, and PC, including
Protracker (MOD), Scream Tracker 3 (S3M), Fast
Tracker II (XM), and Impulse Tracker (IT) files.

Streamripper records MP3, Ogg, AAC, and NSV audio
and video files from Shoutcast and Icecast
compatible streams. The streams can be recorded as
a whole or in individual tracks. Streamripper also
features a relay stream, which lets you listen or
watch live from multiple clients while recording.

Kaffeine is a simple and easy to use media player
based on the xine-lib and full integrated in KDE3.
It supports drag and drop and provides an
editable playlist, a Konqueror plugin, a Mozilla plugin, OSD, and much more.

jlGui is a Java music player. It is WinAmp skins
2.0 compliant. It supports MP3, Ogg Vorbis, AU,
WAV, and AIFF audio formats. MP3 and Ogg streaming
support is also available.

Jajuk is a multi-platform music organizer. The main goal is to provide a fully-featured application to advanced users with large or scattered music collections. It supports most audio formats.

Mylene is a command line MPEG audio player. It can
play plain and system embedded MPEG audio streams
and works for Linux OSS and ALSA emulated OSS and
Mac OS X. The player can be used interactively by
telling it to establish a UNIX or INET server on
which commands can be received. It features
sophisticated song selection filters, the ability
to interpret programs written in a C-like
programming language and user formatted text
output among others. The seek-h262 MPEG decoder is
required for audio and system MPEG decoding.

aTunes is a full-featured audio player and manager. It currently plays MP3, Ogg, wma, wav, FLAC, MP4, and radio streams allowing users to easily edit tags, organize music, and rip audio CDs.

FX Player is a Web-based streaming server with an
iTunes-like interface. It shares your MP3 library
and allow access to your tracks through the
Internet. The server side is in Java, and is Java
servlet specification compliant (you may install
it on Tomcat, Jetty, etc.). It uses JPA for data
access (openJpa), Spring transactions, JAX-RS and
JAXB (Jersey) for client-server communications,
and Apache Derby for data storage. The client side
is build on Adobe Flex and ActionScript.

My Media System is a media-driven system for easy movie and audio playback, image viewing, game playing or watching TV. It supports many common file formats, including MP3, OGG, DivX, XviD, VCD, SVCD, DVD, JPEG, PNG, and GIF. It is controlled using a remote control, USB device, or keyboard. It supports DXR3, DVB, X11, SDL, and framebuffer output.

XiX Music Player is a music player for MP3, Ogg, M4A, AAC, FLAC, APE, and OPUS files. It is easy to create and maintain your own playlists. There is an integrated lyric viewer that searches for the lyric of the song you are listening to. If the CD cover is found, it is also shown. You can also rip CD tracks to MP3 or FLAC. Listening to your favorite online radio stations is also possible. The focus is on having fast control of all your music.

MplayerXP is branch of the well-known mplayer that is based on a new, thread-based core. The main goal of this project is to achieve smoothness of video playback due monotonous CPU loading.
