John the Ripper is a fast password cracker, currently available for many flavors of Unix, Windows, DOS, BeOS, and OpenVMS. Its primary purpose is to detect weak Unix passwords. It supports several crypt(3) password hash types commonly found on Unix systems, as well as Windows LM hashes. On top of this, lots of other hashes and ciphers are added in the community-enhanced version (-jumbo), and some are added in John the Ripper Pro.

Intel AVX (Sandy Bridge) und AMD XOP (Bulldozer) Unterstützung für Bit-Scheiben DES wurde hinzugefügt. Klartext-Passwörter können nun "geknackt" werden (für eine schnellere Prüfung und Abstimmung). Apache "$ $ apr1" MD5-basierten Passwort-Hashes sind nun offiziell unterstützt. Zusätzliche Warnungen und Hinweise werden nun gedruckt, wenn angemessen. Die einzigartige und unshadow Programme wurden deutlich schneller gemacht. Neue externe Modus Proben wurden hinzugefügt: DateTime, Wiederholungen, Subsets, AtLeast1-Einfache, AtLeast1-Generic und Politik. Verschiedene kleinere Bugfixes und Verbesserungen vorgenommen wurden.

The unique and unshadow programs have been made significantly faster. New external mode samples have been added: DateTime, Repeats, Subsets, AtLeast1-Simple, AtLeast1-Generic, and Policy. Assorted minor bugfixes and enhancements were made.
