APLAWS is an J2EE Content Management System
developed to assit UK local authorities deliver
services online. It builds on the Red Hat Web
Application Framework and CMS products to provide
20 content types relevant to local government
publishing requirements. It features full text
search, category & folder based navigation,
compliance with Dublin Core and e-GMS metadata
standards, RSS Feeds, configurable and
personalizable portals, discussion forums, XML
content import and export, an XSL themes engine,
and name based virtual hosting.

There were major bugfixes to improve stability of
the application, including an SQL generation bug
that affected Oracle, several memory leaks, and
JVM lockups. Also included are the new content
exporter and general purpose image attachment
modules for the CMS. Search capabilities on
PostgreSQL have been enhanced to allow indexing of
Word, Excel, and OpenOffice file attachments.
