Details

Building with separate build dir(s) has long been recommendation. Time to make that mandatory in 3.3? Meson already enforces this, so the change would be for autotools builds only.

From maintainer point of view the main benefit would be removal of the burden to maintain .gitignores etc for any files that builddir == srcdir might produce to the source tree.
