ESCUELAS LINUX 8.0
Meet our 25th-anniversary edition!
There is no better way to celebrate 25 years of our struggle to promote Free and Open Source software in educational environments than to release a brand new version of Escuelas Linux.
We could not have reached this anniversary version without the help of thousands of persons who contribute to the Linux ecosystem, one of the colossal collective creations in human history.
-Escuelas Linux 8.0 64-bit relies on the upcoming Bodhi Linux 7.0 and the well-tested Ubuntu 22.04.
-Escuelas Linux 8.0 32-bit relies on Bodhi Linux 6.0 and the proven Debian 11 Bullseye.
We always strive to offer the best educational and general-purpose distribution, highly updated and polished for its use, even in the finest details. As we have solid foundations, many included packages come from something other than the Ubuntu or Debian repositories. We add hundreds of packages created by third-party sources and some from our own production. "Everything configured to work at its maximum potential" is still our long-time motto and our ever goal to achieve.
All this non-profit work, just for our love of education, is based on the work of thousands of minds and hearts that create the Free and Open Source paradigm. But all these years would be worthless if nobody used Escuelas Linux. We have been incredibly fortunate to have a thriving community around the world that uses our proposal to elevate the quality of the educational processes in schools and community centers, as well as a robust, solid platform for individual teachers and students to achieve all their potential. To all of you, many thanks for letting us be part of your lives all these years!
Our ever-lasting gratitude to Robert Wiley and Stefan Uram, heads of the Bodhi Linux distribution. With their deep knowledge and patience, Escuelas Linux 8.0 exists. We are also grateful to the current Ministry of Education of Zacatecas for letting us thrive in our local environment.
Due to the sheer complexity of our package dependencies and configurations, we cannot offer an upgrade path from 7.x to our 8.0 release. To install 8.0, you'll need to back up your own files and format the partition of your old 64-bit Escuelas Linux installation. Check the section "Setup procedure for computers in which there is already a Linux system" in our Installation Manual.
SOFTWARE HIGHLIGHTS.
Escuelas Linux 8.0 64-bit is powered by the 6.0.12 Linux kernel, as patched and packed by System76. Our 32-bit edition includes a recent compilation of the 4.19 kernel, fairly compatible with older hardware.
